Itinerary

Day1 USA - Bogota, Colombia

Today, board your flight for Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

Day2 Arrival Bogota

Upon arrival at Bogota airport, meet your tour guide and transfer to your hotel in the city center. With a population of 8 million, Colombia's capital bursts with contrasts: with cosmopolitan commerce and shopping rubbing shoulders with grinding poverty, and modern high-rises overshadowing colonial churches. Enjoy a tour of this intriguing city to get your first tastes of local life and food. Delve into the Zona Rosa district of classy restaurants and bars, and visit La Plaza de Andres, a gourmet food court specializing in Colombian dishes. Treat your taste buds to ‘arepa de choclo'—local corncakes served with cheese—and a delicious home-produced beer. Then, visit 93rd Street Park and the colonial enclave of Usaquen, whose cobbled streets are lined with brightly colored houses and bohemian eateries. Lastly, stop to try ‘roscon,' a popular ring-shaped cake filled with guava paste or cream.

A day of discovery beckons today, starting with a trip to Zipaquira, home to a salt mine into which is carved a Salt Cathedral. Descend into the mine to admire the surreal cathedral and 14 nearby salt-cut chapels. After emerging back into daylight, visit the picturesque town of Zipaquira before returning to Bogota and exploring La Candelaria—a photogenic pocket of cobbled lanes and colorful houses. Admire the monuments and palaces situated around the Plaza de Boliva—the city's old heart— and visit the famous Gold Museum, which houses over 30,000 gold pieces, and the Botero Museum, which houses one of Latin America's most important international art collections.

Dive deeper into historical Cartagena with a walking tour around and inside its UNESCO-listed Old Town: a maze of 16th- and 17th-century Spanish architecture, narrow lanes and wooden-balconied houses. Roam the cobbled passages to soak in each distinct little area, and admire colorful squares such as the Plaza de Bolivar—boasting a statue of South America's independence leader, Simon Bolivar—the Plaza de San Pedro, Plaza de Los Coches, and Plaza Santo Domingo, the latter dominated by the lovely orange-painted Church of Santo Domingo.
